Prophet of Allah
Ibrahim (AS)
إبراهيم
Known in other traditions as: Abraham
Sent to: His father, his people, and Pharaoh-like Nimrod
Khalil-ullah — the Friend of Allah. Father of prophets, founder of monotheism in his line, builder of the Kaaba with his son Isma'il.
Story
Ibrahim was raised in a society of idolatry. As a young man, he reasoned his way to tawhid, smashed the idols of his people, and confronted his idol-making father. Thrown into a great fire by Nimrod, Allah commanded the fire to be cool and safe. He left his homeland with his wife Sarah and later Hajar and son Isma'il. He left Hajar and Isma'il in the barren valley of Mecca by Allah's command — where Zamzam sprang up. He was tested with the command to sacrifice his son and passed by submitting completely. He and Isma'il built the Kaaba on its original foundations.
Key Lessons
- Reason and revelation both lead to tawhid.
- Fire does not burn what Allah protects.
- Submission is real even when the test is extreme.
- Every Hajj, every Salah blessing on Ibrahim, every facing of the Kaaba traces back to him.
